St Mary of the Angels school is a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic school for boys and girls from the ages of 3 to 11 years old. The school is a one-and-a-half-form entry and classes are of mixed ability. The number of pupils on roll is 323. There are at present 11 classes in the school plus the Nursery.
Children start school in the Nursery full-time, in the September after their third birthday. Children from the Nursery and outside, enter the Reception infants class in the September of the school year in which they are five years of age. Previously housed in two buildings either side of St Mary of the Angels parish church, the school moved to its present position sixteen years ago.
An extension to the new building which now contains the junior classrooms was added in 1994.
St Mary of the Angels Primary School was founded by the Catholic Church to provide education for children of Catholic families. Parents seeking a place for their child should contact the school office for an application form and a copy of the admission criteria. Parents are welcome to visit the school by appointment. As a Catholic school, we aim to provide a Catholic education for all our pupils. At a Catholic school, Catholic doctrine and practice permeate every aspect of the school's activity. It is essential that the Catholic character of the school's education is fully supported by all families in the school. All applicants are therefore expected to give their full, unreserved and positive support for the aims and ethos of the school.
The Governing Body has responsibility for admissions to this school and intends to admit 45 pupils to the Reception Class. Children will be admitted in one intake in September 2011. Priority will always be given to applicants from practising Catholic families in accordance with the over-subscription criteria stated in our Admissions Policy. 'Practising' means weekly attendance at Sunday Mass at a Catholic church, confirmed by a priest's reference. The uniform is obligatory. All children must come to and from school wearing the appropriate school uniform - looking neat and tidy.
